Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

   

“In new situations, all the trickiest rules are the ones nobody bothers explain to you, and the ones you can’t google.” This quotes relates with the main character exploring her new place and seeking to fit in. College student Cath, has moved into a new college dorm. She is a fan fiction writer of the book series called Simon Snow. Cath is devastated when she finds out her twin sister is not her roommate. Cath has difficulties trying to find a comfort zone in her new dorm. She is afraid to express herself and meet new people. Teenagers can relate to Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, because teenagers can sometimes feel afraid to show their real selves, and set out to make new friends.

Ever since Cath moved into the dorm, she’s been bugged about having a stranger has her roommate, instead of her sister. Wren, is trying hard to convince Cath, that she needs to try to experiences. “ It’s college, it’s supposed to be an adventure. We have to meet new people.” Cath replies “ I don’t need new people, please don’t make me do this alone.” This quote is showing that Cath is not a fan of adventures. She doesn’t like changing to new situations. This quote also makes me think that she is used to sharing a room with her twin sister for 18 years, and wants to continue this. Cath and Wren are very different people. Cath is very independent and likes to do things alone, while Wren is very fierce, and loves trying to experiences. Despite the differences, Cath and Wren have a strong relationship.

Cath also has obstacles trying to communicate with other college students, especially her roommate, Reagan. Cath says to her sister “ We talk, she says would you mind closing the window, and i say that's fine. Also, “hey.” We exchange “heys” daily. Sometimes twice daily.” This humorous quote is expressing that Cath isn’t really trying hard to start a conversation with Reagan. She is always busy thinking about her sister or working on her writing,. Cath also can’t accept the fact that she has to live with a stranger, and is expected to get used to her so fast. I realized that Cath has trouble communicating with Reagan because they are very different from each other. Reagan, loves to express herself, always holding a cigarette in her and and attending clubs and parties. Cath stays in the dorm, either eating protein bars or writing fan fiction stories. Since they don’t have much in common, it's hard for Cath to communicate with her roommate.

All, in all. Cath is a very shy college student who has a passion for writing. She enjoyed living with her twin sister and her dad peacefully. But now, she is having a hard time getting used to changes in her college dorm. Cath really cherishes her sister, and always wants to spend time with her. Cath does not really engage in conversations with her roommate, either. I believe writing stories is very comforting and valuable for Cath. She cherishes her readers and improves her writing with the comments she receives, Cath values writing a whole lote

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins Response

          "Is it possible for home to be a person and not a place?" This quote shows how much the main character values her lover. Anna was forced by her father to attend a University in Paris. At first she was dejected to leave her friends and family behind, but when Anna arrived in Paris everything turned the opposite. She met Eteanne St. Clair and became engaged in his looks. Soon they started boding and Anna realizes she has fallen for St Clair. Feeling confused and puzzled, Anna can't make a decision. Teens can connect to this because they can be afraid to make big decisions and 
changes.

            Sometimes people can have no courage to confess to others, because other issues are blocking them. Anna is not confident enough to confess her love to St. Clair because his personal issues are on their way. After St. Clair finds out about his mom's cancer issue, he gets drunk and has an emotional attack in Anna's house. While Anna doesn't know how to calm him down. he says " Anna...about our relationship, I wanna be more then a friend." The day after, St. Clair gets well, he asks Anna is he said anything about their relationship the other day. Anna replies, " No, you just talked about your mom." This makes me believe that Anna knows St. Clair is concerned with his mom. She does not want St. Clair to worry about her causing him to be stressed out about both topics.. " I lied to St. Clair. My heart races, I really wanted to tell him. " This shows that Anna was nervous to tell St. Clair the truth, 

           Throughout the book, Anna and St. Clair gets closer. She begins to question him on why he hasn't left Ellie (his girlfriend) yet. St. Clair answer, " I'm afraid of making big decisions, I've been with Ellie for so long." This quote shows that St. Clair isn't ready for his choice yet and he doesn't want to hurt Ellie either. Independently, Anna says, "St. Clair was right, I'm afraid of making big decisions also. If I talked to Christopher earlier, I would of had him." This realization moment is showing that Anna is also afraid of making big choices, and that affected her negatively. This also makes me realize that Anna understands why St. Clair won't leave Ellie.

           In, conclusion, Anna and St. Clair have no confidence to confess to each other. I think people can have a tough time making choices which can affect one negatively. This book is really valuable to me because it shows the idea on how people can't be confident about their choice of something. This book made me realize that you need to take time making choices on important issues or else you will loose things.

  "Its not what you are that's holding you back. Its what you think your not." This quote displays that the main character's thinking of herself is stopping her from being confident.
Daisy, a 17 year old teenager with physic powers, is dealing with overwhelming problems. Her dad returned from being captured for 6 years. Daisy's dad is not used to Daisy being all grown-up, and is being strict to her. He also seems to dislike Daisy's boyfriend, Ryan. While trying to convince her dad that Daisy is not his little girl anymore, Daisy is dealing with a problem of her own. She does not have confidence in her looks and believes she is not good enough for Ryan. Teenagers reading this story will connect to Daisy's self esteem and family issues. 

          To begin with, after Daisy's father returns, he is confused and not used to life at home. He can't accept that Daisy is all grown up and already has a job and everything. After all,  Daisy was only 11 years old when her father left. After hearing that Daisy's boyfriend is a werewolf, Mr. Goirdano is not so sure about Ryan. "I want you to think about your relationship between you and Ryan. He may harm you." This quote makes me think that Daisy's father really cares about Daisy's protection. He wants Daisy to have all the safety she can get. Daisy says, " Dad won't even let me go to the game with Ryan. He is so overprotective." In other words Daisy believes her father is being to overprotective of her and treating her like a little kid. I'm realizing that parents may be annoying and force you to do things, but they are only doing this for your protection because they care about you.

          Everyone loses their self esteem once in awhile. Daisy lost her self esteem for her appearance. Something Daisy said to her friends were, " I don't even look like myself with makeup, I am just ordinary Daisy Goirdano without makeup. Ryan could of chose any girl in high school." This quote is showing that Daisy believes that makeup is necessary to look beautiful and that she is not good enough for Ryan. The surprising thing is that Daisy is surrounded by loving friends and family, who compliment her on her looks, though she still doesn't feel confident. I really can relate to Daisy, because I did also have low self esteem and worried about my looks. I used to think that everyone judges everyone on appearance. Everyone is special their own way and no one should be judged on their appearance

All in all, I believe that sometimes people can feel that their parents are really bugging them, and being annoying. The only reason is that parents want their children to be safe and have protection. So the next time my mom won't let me go out with my friends, I know she's doing it for a positive reason. My book also expresses the idea that teens can sometimes have low self esteem and may feel judged negatively. I realized that if you surround yourself with people who are positive around you, you can feel confident and have lots of self esteem. Dead is just a rumor is a great book that expresses family relationships and self esteem issues.

My Reading Life

Hello. My name is Mosammat B. I am 13 years young. I really enjoy reading. For me reading is a time where I can relax and forget about my struggles. My favorite genres are fantasy/fairy tale, mysteries, fiction, realistic fiction. I am really not a fan of nonfiction though I have read some nonfiction books. It takes a while for me to find my choice of book. Whenever I check out a book from the library, I usually try to finish the book in less then a week. 

Some books I have read are Two of the Lemony Snicket Books, The Dead series by Marlene Perez, and the Poison Apple Series. The Poison Apple series is mostly about vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and other panoramic creatures. I enjoyed reading all 10 books and learning about creatures that don't exist. I've also read The Garden Of Eve by K.L Going. This book is about an 11 year old girl named Eve, whose mother has passed away from cancer. So Eve, and her Father purchases a withered apple orchard and moves to Beaumont New York. Eve isn't enjoying the new place, nor the apple orchard. She is especially disturbed by the fact that her new home is right in front of a Cemetery, which brings memories about her mom. Through out the book Eve learns more about Beaumont NY and the withered apple tree. She befriends a boy named Alex who is apparently a ghost, and they both set out to solve the mystery about the withered apple orchard. I really enjoyed reading this book multiple times because its a blend of fantasy and mystery. I also enjoyed reading some books by John Green, for example The Fault in our Stars, and Paper Towns. Those books really make me feel connected to the characters because they can relate to me.

When I was in Elementary school I just read books, and never noticed anything about them or jotted any notes. When I got to 4th grade I learned that books have lots of different things like symbols and lessons. In some of the books I have read have symbols in them. For Instance, a book I read in the summer, Olives Ocean, by Kevin Henkes. This book was about about a 12 year old girl named Martha Boyle, who finds out astonishing secrets about Olive Barstow, a classmate of hers that has passed away. When Olive's mother delivers a writing journal to Martha, Martha starts reading and finding many connections between her and Olive. For example, both girls want to become writers,  and both enjoy the ocean, thou Olive has never seen one. Olive also writes in her entry she thinks Martha is the nicest person in class and one day they will hopefully be friends. This depresses Martha because she always thought Olive was a very weird girl and has never spoke to her. Martha goes to her grandma's who lives near the Atlantic ocean and saves a bottle of water to give Olive's mother which shows she really feels bad for Olive since she never got to see the ocean. The symbol in this story was the water because Olive is a reflection of Martha since they have so many similarities.

In the summer I have read a few books and mostly drew. I read the book A Summer of Goodbye (not sure if title is correct) This book was very depressing and it was about a girl who's brother has passed away from drowning. She is really depressed because she didn't help her brother from drowning. Its been 4 years and she is starting to accept her brother's death. But, when she babysits a strange boy, memories of her brother come rushing through her heart. Frankie, the boy she babysits is the same age as her b brother and likes everything her brother liked. They have many similarities. I have also read a few manga and anime books and comics.
